The World Has so Much STUFF and There’s No Way I’m Part of the Problem

I’ve never really realized it before now, but the world is filled with STUFF.

I know, a lot of you are raising eyebrows and wondering if I’ve just been living under a rock or a super consumer-driven lifestyle.

I guess both?

I think it, finally, hit me how much stuff there is in this world because I don’t need any, anymore.

I don’t need a new couch. I don’t need any new kitchen appliances. I don’t need new bedframes or side tables or folding chairs, or a folding table, or work-out equipment, or a desk, or a vacuum.

I have everything that I need. I’m sure I’ll find something I’ll need in some time, or something will break sooner or later, but for right now? I don’t need a single thing.

Except those mugs at IKEA that I’ve been eyeing forever.

But, that’s it.

Unless I think of the fact that my bedframe will need to be replaced soon because there’s a crack in a piece because you are never meant to take apart IKEA furniture and put it back together. It lives that way forever or you buy new.

But, that can hold off for a little while.

I’ve been hit with sales on furniture, clothing, kitchenware, electronics since a month before Black Friday. It’s now the end of January and we’re getting hit with clearance sales to make room for spring/summer stock.

Where is all of this stuff going? Do people really change out their couches every couple of years? Their decor every year?

I sure don’t.

Except, I need that cute Valentine’s heart. It would be perfect over the mantel. Oh, and maybe a new top because, you know, spring is on its way and I can’t be wearing the same clothes I wore in winter. Yes, I know they’re t-shirts and can be worn throughout the year, but they’re wintery t-shirts. You know?

Anyways. My office is full of stuff. So much stuff that I have only a small spot on my desk that fits my laptop, some pens, and a coffee mug. There’s a basket full of notebooks and envelopes and staples and other office-y type of things. I have notebooks for so many different subjects, and have new notebooks at the ready because you need to be ready. I love the feeling of writing on paper and loathe tapping into the notes app on my phone. But, the basket is full and kind of spilling over onto the desk.

I do need a new mini binder. And, that notebook over there is only $4 and that’s such a deal, so I have to have it. You never know when you’ll fly through 10 notebooks in a day.

There are so many notebooks sitting on shelves, all on clearance. What happens to them if no one buys them? Do they stay on the shelf until they’re all gone? Do they go into the back and then re-emerge a few months later as new stock? Do they just go to the dump? Perfectly good books, not used, sitting in a landfill? I must save them all. I must add them to my own, personal, landfill that is my office. That is becoming my home.

I don’t need anything else in my house. I’ve got shelves of seasonal decor downstairs, I don’t need a single new item for any holiday.

But, I do see that really cute tinsel Christmas tree. And, it’s also on clearance like that notebook. Oh, and this really cute Easter bunny. It’s not on clearance, but I MUST add it to my collection. It’s just so damn cute.

Okay, okay. My house is filled with stuff. I don’t know where any of it has come from. No buying new things. Strictly thrift store shopping from here on out, or using what I have.

I’m a little bored and have time in between appointments, perhaps I’ll just check out this thrift store over here. There are so many things for less than $5! What a deal, what a steal. I MUST have it. I MUST have them all.

The world has so much stuff and we all need to stop buying less – ooh, but maybe I should check out this sale first.
